Wuyue Plaza of Shangrao: A Blossoming Tribute to Local Culture

Embracing Shangrao's Natural Beauty

The most striking feature of the project is its facade, which showcases the unique beauty of Shangrao's flowers. The design team wanted to reflect the local characteristics of the region to the fullest extent possible. By combining facade design, curtain wall deepening, and innovative lighting techniques, the plaza's exterior becomes a canvas for the projection of Shangrao's flower sea. During the day, the facade comes alive with blooming flowers of different degrees, while at night, the lighting design creates mesmerizing patterns that illuminate the Shangrao skyline.

The design process involved meticulous control over the entire facade, ensuring that the original "petal" units and the overall structure harmoniously coexist. The team considered the opening and closing of the petals to echo the various stages of flower growth, from bud to half-open to full bloom. A total of 3025 flower-patterned curtain wall units were arranged on the facade, utilizing parametric design principles to seamlessly connect different units and showcase the beauty of Shangrao's flowers.

Located in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, China, the Wuyue Plaza project commenced in September 2017 and was completed in June 2019. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of merging the unique facade form with the local characteristics of Shangrao. By combining innovative ideas, deepening the curtain wall design, and implementing creative lighting solutions, they successfully achieved the desired "Flower Sea" effect.

The Wuyue Plaza of Shangrao has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill. The plaza's integration of art, science, design, and technology contributes to the improvement of quality of life, making it a true gem in the heart of Shangrao.
